Job Purpose

 The Communications Manager is responsible for leading, planning, shaping and delivering the College’s communications strategy.  The role is pivotal in shaping how the College engages with our audiences online and is responsible for creating, managing, and optimising digital content to ensure consistent, engaging, and effective communication and strengthened brand management across all channels.

 

In summary, this important role will oversee the implementation of the College communications strategy including website content, social media channels, email communications, and digital storytelling initiatives, ensuring alignment with the College’s brand, values, and strategic goals.

 

Key result areas

  1. Website Management – Lead, manage and maintain the website content, ensuring it is accurate, up-to-date, user-friendly, accessible, secure and optimised for search engines (SEO). Manage website user profiles, content, design, functionality, performance and user experience.

  2. Social Media Management – Plan, create and optimise the College’s social media presence, creating and curating content that engages the audience and support the College’s communication goals.

  3. Brand Management - Ensure consistent brand consistency and integrity across all digital touchpoints and maintain brand integrity in digital campaigns and communications in line with College’s tone, voice and visual identity.

  4. Content Creation - Create and manage content strategies that resonate with the target audience. Optimise content and structure to improve search engine rankings and drive traffic across digital platforms.

  5. Digital Communications – Create, manage and distribute digital content including email campaigns and newsletters. Manage assets to support campaign delivery including imagery, video, infographics, audio, digital designs and presentations. Managing subscriber list and reporting campaign performance.

  6. Analytics & Reporting – Monitor performance metrics and user engagement; provide regular reports and insights to inform strategy and ensure continuous improvement.

  7. Paid Advertising - Plan and execute online advertising campaigns as appropriate across platforms like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, etc. Monitor campaign performance, optimising ad spend and maximise ROI.

  8. Stakeholder Engagement - Build and maintain effective relationships with key relevant internal and external stakeholders and professional bodies as appropriate to continuously develop knowledge and learning.

  9. Data ProtectionEnsure that all marketing activities, including data collection through websites, social media platforms, and other channels, comply with applicable data protection laws and regulations.

  10. Communications Team – Lead, coach and mentor the digital communication team ensuring high performance and professional development.

  11. Self-development - Stay informed about platform updates, digital trends, and audience behaviour to keep content relevant and effective.


Person specification

Qualifications & experience

  • Third level qualification in related subject areas such as Digital Marketing, Communications, Digital Media.

  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in digital communications, content management, or a similar role.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to tone and audience.

  • Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., WordPress), email marketing tools, and social media platforms.

  • Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights) and SEO best practices.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and digital communication best practices.

 

Technical competencies

  • Excellent ICT skills with capacity to maximise technology to increase efficiency. 

  • Strong understanding of website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, WebTrends)

  • Proficiency in optimising website content, structure, and technical aspects to improve organic search engine rankings.

  • Ability to analyse marketing data using web analytics tools and other data sources to measure performance, track KPIs, and derive actionable insights.

  • Knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn) and expertise in developing and executing social media marketing campaigns.

  • Up to date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement.
